How do I invite someone who isn’t local?

Inviting someone into the 115.1 app is meant to be personal, intentional, and secure. That’s why the normal process is designed to happen when you are physically with the person you’re inviting. We believe discipleship is most effective when it’s relational, and the invitation process reflects that. It also helps us protect the integrity of the app and ensure that each connection is grounded in real accountability.

That said, we understand there may be situations where you’re not in the same location as someone you’d like to invite—like a trusted friend or ministry partner in another city or country. If that’s the case, there is a secure workaround you can use.

Before you invite someone

Before starting the invite process, make sure:

  • The person you’re inviting is in an accountability relationship with you.

  • They’ve already installed the 115.1 app from the App Store or Google Play.

  • The invitee must scan the QR code using the 115.1 app, not their device’s camera app.

  • QR codes expire after 24 hours and can only be used once. So only send the code when they’re ready to sign up.

The 3-step invite process

Step 1: View your invites

  1. Open the app.

  2. Tap the settings menu (top-right corner).

  3. Tap “See my invites”.

  4. Tap the blue “Invite a disciple maker” button to start.

Step 2: Select their channels

  1. Tick the boxes for any channels you want them to see.

  2. Tap “Show me the next steps”.

Step 3: Share your QR code remotely

If you are not physically with the person you’re inviting, you can still complete the invite process by sharing your QR code:

  • After you reach the QR code screen, take a screenshot of the code.

  • Send the screenshot to your invitee (e.g., via email, text, or messaging app).

  • Ask them to open the image on a secondary device (like a laptop or tablet).

  • On their primary device, they should open the 115.1 app and tap “Register new account”.

  • They’ll scan your QR code from the second screen and continue with account setup.
