How do I get started as a channel administrator?
Becoming a channel administrator allows you to manage a channel on the 115.1 app. In this role, you can invite new members to your channel, approve or decline join requests, and oversee interactions within the channel. Follow the steps below to get started.
Requesting channel administrator status
To become a channel administrator, simply:
Tap on the “Contact support” option on the app menu.
Request to be a channel admin for your desired channel.
Understanding channel types
There are three types of channels on 115.1:
Public channels: Open to everyone, allowing users to join freely and interact with posts in the channel.
Private, visible channels: Can be discovered by any user, but you need permission to join. This is granted by a channel administrator.
Private, hidden channels: Hidden from search results, with membership only possible through being invited by a channel administrator.
You can find out more about different types of channel by reading how the different channel types work.
Inviting users to your channel
To invite someone to your channel, follow these steps:
Open the app menu in in the top-left of your screen and select your channel.
Tap on the blue “invite” button.
Search for an individual’s name or scroll down the list of users not yet in your channel.
Click on the blue “invite” button next to the person’s name you want to invite, and confirm your choice.
Note: Only channel administrators can invite people to join a private channel. Also, if the channel is hidden, the only way to join the channel is to be invited by a channel admin.*
Approving join requests
To manage join requests for your channel, follow these steps:
Open the app menu in in the top-left of your screen and you will see ‘Join requests’ if you have any pending requests.
Review the join requests and decide whether to allow or decline each one.
Tap on the “allow” or “decline” button and confirm your choice.
Note: Users are not notified of declined requests so they might try and request to join again.
Tips for managing requests
If you’re unsure about a user, you can find their profile on another channel and message the person who invited them to 115.1 for more information.
If you decline a request, consider using the messaging functionality to provide an explanation.
